Our Home Educators Group History Day

Our local home educators group ran a history day this month.  It was a really great event!

Some children had history projects on display, and some did an oral presentation also.  We did not do this part, but the children enjoyed participating in the activities afterward.

The children listening attentively.
Blossom is in the bottom left of the picture - long pony tail on black hoodie!
Butterfly is in center picture with white knit top.
There were lots of activities to choose from and none of us got around all of them, even collectively.  But lots of fun was had none-the-less.

Here Butterfly listens with interest to a friend.
Arrow and Cedar made Roman helmets.
Afternoon tea time - the room was suddenly noticeably quiet!
This is a selection of some of what the children did.
Left - Mexican art: Cedar, Arrow, Crystal
Middle - Clay tablet with Cuneiform writing, Mayan Face Mask: Butterfly
Middle - Aboriginal art: Cedar
Right - Quiz of information found in the displays: Blossom 100%
There was other things which didn't make it to the photos.  Crystal made a Celtic knot with bread dough.

This month Butterfly has been busy lately with a little bit of history learning.  She was very inspired by the movie Brave and decided to spend her birthday money on a Merida doll.  She then proceeded to design and make a whole new outfit and accessories for her doll.

Eagle has been also doing a bit of history research.  I know, it was a total surprise to me too!  But then when something piques ones interest, one will traverse paths once shunned.

He has been giving me a discourse on the secret meanings of fairy tales and nursery rhymes and their original versions.  Disturbing is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!  He told me he will NOT be letting his children learn or read these.
